Marechaux-Cotignac

Number One Rue des Marechaux was once the old blacksmith’s forge - it is now a house of character five minutes’ walk from the centre of the most sought after village in the middle Var region - Cotignac. Cotignac has long been considered one of the most beautiful and interesting villages in Provence with a history dating back to Roman times. It is surrounded by pine clad hills, olive groves and vineyards. Cliffs formed of the porous calcium rock ‘tufa’ dominate and protect Cotignac. A population of around two thousand supports several restaurants and bars, excellent food shops to provide every need, a local honey store, several enticing ‘interior’ emporiums and a fabulous kilim carpet retailer, together with three or four antique shops – in short a veritable retail therapy paradise! The Tuesday market is not to be missed.
